Wastewater treatment technologies

Many are unaware that wastewater can be transformed into reusable water. Through natural processes, toxins are removed, resulting in clean and safe water. Only 3% of Earth’s water is drinkable. It is a renewable resource, but the natural processes of evaporation and rainfall that remove toxins take a long time. Modern wastewater treatment methods accelerate this process, providing crystal-clear and safe water that is suitable for reuse.

POWERING THE CYPRUS TOWARDS A CLEAN WATER FUTURE

Residential wastewater
treatment plants
Aquatec AT6 - AT20

ProtoAqua offer a full turn-key installation service, AT6 - AT20 residential wastewater treatment plants were invented to purify sewage water for detached houses.

Wastewater treatment plants of the AT6 to AT20 series are solutions and bring benefits for every household:

  • Clean water directly at source of pollution
  • Low operating costs of wastewater treatment unit
  • Operation up to 8 times cheaper compared to the cesspool
  • High quality purified water
  • Reuse of purified water
  • Quiet, odorless
  • Meets the prescribed EN 12566-3 standard
Purified waste water can be discharged into surface or underground water, recycle it by using for irrigation of lawns and ornamental greenery or use it for technical purposes after filtration.

Simple installation of
AT wastewater
treatment plants

WWTPs of the type AT 6 to AT 20 are installed into a pit with a 15 cm thick reinforced concrete slab on the bottom, so that the upper edge of the WWTP tank overlaps about 5 cm above the terrain. If necessary, and if the design documentation requires it, the WWTP is to be concreted to the height specified by the project documentation. WWTP must be filled with water (to the outflow pipe level) before doing the backfill. Detailed instructions for installing of WWTPs are given in the operating instructions annexed. The ProtoAqua VFL technical team will take care of the installation.

Vertical Flow Labyrinth – VFL® - Treatment process

The technology uses a continuous-flow activated sludge process with biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal, which combines the following processes in a single tank:  mechanical pre-treatment, excess sludge collection, biological treatment using a low-loaded activated sludge process, separation of the treated water from activated sludge in the final clarification chamber, flow balancing of fluctuating inflow of wastewater in the retention chamber. The treatment process consists of several technological processes. Raw wastewater flows into the non-aerated activated sludge chamber with anaerobic and anoxic zones creating and admixture with the recirculated activated sludge, the mechanical pre-treatment of inflowing raw wastewater and the decomposition of coarse impurities, denitrification and accumulation of readily degradable organic contamination is taking place in the non-aerated activated sludge chamber, which is divided by inner partition walls to create a vertical flow labyrinth, where internal circulation is established.
Furthermore, allowing the admixture flow gravitationally into the aerated activated sludge chamber with includes fine-bubble diffusors. In oxic conditions the biological degradation of organic contamination, nitrification and phosphorus uptake is taking place.  The activated sludge flows into the final clarification chamber, where the activated sludge is separated from the treated wastewater. The treated wastewater is discharged into a water flow, infiltrated or recycled and the separated activated sludge is recirculated by air-lifts.
A flow regulator is installed at the water level in the final clarification chamber which controls the outflow in order to maintain the water level between the normal and maximum level in the tank (integrated retention chamber).
The pressurized air is supplied by blowers for aeration of the activated sludge chamber and for recirculation via air-lift pumps. The recirculation and aeration is controlled by a microprocessor control unit which also enables the wastewater treatment plant to work in various modes depending on the loading.
ProtoAqua VFL service and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants
For the long lifetime of each process equipment, it is necessary to provide professional service. We therefore provide wastewater treatment plants maintenance and service throughout Cyprus:

Warranty service of wastewater treatment plants

Emergency service of wastewater treatment plants

Aquatec VFL wastewater treatment plants, manufactured first in Slovakia, obtained the Eurocertificate  based on the long-term testing of treatment efficiency in compliance with EN 12566-3, which was carried out by PIA GmbH in Aachen, Germany.

The Eurocertificate was the first to finally investigate whether a residential wastewater treatment plant purifies water. Our wastewater treatment plant achieved great results in the test, which is proven by the evaluation.
In the countries of the European Union, only those wastewater treatment plants certified in compliance with the norm EN 12566-3, and whose purification efficiency satisfies the national legislation of a particular country, may be installed.

Our wastewater treatment plants provide the highest quality of workmanship to thousands of satisfied customers all over the world.

As of today, our wastewater treatment plants produce a total of approximately 5 million litres of purified water per day.

  • Dig a hole
  • Build a reinforced-concrete base slab 150 mm thick, flatness +/- 5 mm;
  • Create furrows that are directed to  the excavation centre for the inlet and outlet piping;
  • Lay the pipelines;
  • The pipelines should be lead to the excavation in its appropriate length;
  • Prepare the inlet piping  to be directly connected to the input socket  of the wwtp
  • The outlet piping in the excavation should end with a socket  to allow its connection with the outlet piping from the wwtp;
  • Unless the pipelines are led to the hole on the same axis (e.g. due to technical terms), a sufficient number of interconnecting elbow-pipes with the correct angles should be provided on the day of installation
  • Decreasing the level of the  underground water below the excavation base level;
  • Reinspect the flatness of the reinforced-concrete base slab (permitted tolerance +/- 5 mm in all directions). If the flatness is not within the aforementioned tolerance, place the  cement layer to achieve the required flatness;
  • Make certain there are no objects, stones, clay etc. on the reinforced-concrete base slab;
  • Lay the protective PP or PVC of DN 50 piping below the ground level so the air supply flow from the blower to the wwtp;
    (the pipeline serves for the connection hose to pass through which will secure the  air blowing  from the blower to the wwtp; it should not be more than 5 metres long);
  • Leading the  electric power to the blower location, placing the electric cable into the protective piping according to the applicable Slovak Technical Norms (STN));
The contractor will perform the preliminary work to the building

The AT wastewater treatment plant meet the requirements for the resistance of inflowing sewage water abruptly. Ensuring the homogeneous operation of the wastewater treatment plant in the event of abrupt outpour of high volume of water (e.g. bathtub, washing machine, etc.). The wastewater treatment plant main problem is respect to the discharge of the activated sludge upon every abrupt inflow resulting in solving this issue.
